The Cinerama screen  was situated  too high in the auditorium as they needed to  have a fire exit beneath the stage. This meant that  you had to look up to the screen from most parts of the auditorium except for the upstairs lodges on each side of the projection box. 146 degree curved screen was  replaced with a flat 70mm screen on April 15 1972. The last 70mm film screened there for the public (GONE WITH THE WIND) was in July 1982. Only 35mm films were screened there until it was  closed on June 25, 1987.
